Beauty’s Beast jumped from the gates well and went straight to the front of the field and was able to kick clear when asked for an extra effort from jockey Hugh Bowman to score a comfortable win from Woodbine and Engagement.

Trainer David Greene was thrilled to score a race win on one of the biggest days on the Australian racing calendar, giving New Zealand-trained horses a good start to the day, and believes that the best is still ahead of the Guillotine gelding.

“It is important for the Kiwis to strike early in the day and keep it one all and give ourselves a chance,” Greene said after the race.

“The start before Rodney and Nelson (from owners Windsor Park) said that he is going good enough, he is a gelding and we better have a crack at something worth a bit more money.

“They picked out this race here, they were smart enough to pick out the right race and we have come over and got the chocolates.

“He is a beautiful horse; he is exactly what you would expect from a horse bred at Windsor Park.

“He has a great cruising speed, he is strong, he is lightly-raced and there I no reason next season that he doesn’t come back as an even bigger and stronger horse.”

Beauty’s Beast made his racing debut in June last year and he has found his best form since returning to the races with a narrow win over Belial in The Edge Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie on February 12.

The Guillotine filly finished a narrow second behind In Style in The New Zealand Herald Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie on March 8 before recording two impressive wins in the Triton Pacific Owens Plate (1300m) at Tauranga on March 22 and the Towes Insurance Brokers Handicap (1400m) at Te Aroha.
