Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
It may be Sydney Cup Day at Royal Randwick on Easter Saturday, but the race that threatens to steal the show is the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2014 – betting tips for which can be found right here.
With a prize money boost up to a juicy $4 million, this year’s Group 1 Longines Queen ElizabethStakes (2000m) has attracted a class field.
Running as Randwick Race 8 at 4:25pm (AEST), one event after the 2014 Sydney Cup, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes field features 12 hopefuls.
It’s a wide open Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting market too with three of the four single figure fancies battling for favouritism.
Currently winning the betting battle at $4 is market mover It’s A Dundeel who has been well backed to win.
The five time Group 1 winning Kiwi has now surpassed former favourite, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Carlton House (out to $4.20) in the markets, the duo to jump from barriers one and five respectively.
It’s A Dundeel is yet to win this prep, but has come close with their three minor placings including a last start second behind Silent Achiever in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) on April 5.
Carlton House meanwhile also comes off a close second having been defeated a mere nose by the same mare, Silent Achiever, in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) on March 22.
Ranvet Stakes – The BMW double winner Silent Achiever is the next best in betting then at a quote of $4.60 as she looks to secure her fifth win from as many starts this autumn.
The last of the hopes under $10 in the latest Queen Elizabeth Stakes odds is then the Chris Waller-trained Royal Descent ($8), last year’s Australian Oaks champ a known mudlark coming off a second to stable mate Sacred Falls in last Saturday’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at the track.
With so much class to choose from, below the Races.com.au team have made their insider Queen Elizabeth Stakes tips public knowledge!
#3 Sacred Falls ($12)
We’re tipping an upset Queen Elizabeth Stakes result on Saturday and have Waller’s Doncaster champ Sacred Falls as the one to beat. While the fear is there that they peaked last week to win the Group 1 over the 1600m, we’re tipping them to have one more big win in them. They are up in distance but handled the 2000m well as a three-year-old when runner-up to It’s A Dundeel in the Rosehill Guineas. They’ve been on the improve this prep and think on a Heavy track they’ll be hard to hold off to give Waller back-to-back wins following the success of Reliable Man 12 months ago. Reliable Man came off an unplaced George Ryder start to win this last year, and Sacred Falls was fourth in that race before their Doncaster triumph. Boast one of the best Win Rates of the field (44%) and are undefeated in the wet.
#2 It’s A Dundeel ($4)
They’re the market mover and new favourite and probably deservingly so when you look at the stats. Murray Baker’s Kiwi raider has five Group 1 wins down under and has been right on the brink of their sixth in their three runs here this time in. First-up second in the Chipping Norton was followed by a close Ranvet third over the 2000m before they stepped up to 2400m to run second to Silent Achiever again this time in The BMW on April 5. Drop back in distance here so how they handle that will be key but there’s plenty to suggest they’ll be fine. They have the second best Win Rate (50%), the top Place Rate (78%), the best Randwick record (4-3-1-0) so are a specialist at the track and when they’ve seen the distance they’ve thrived (6-2-2-1). Will they like it this wet? That’s the only query.
#10 Silent Achiever ($4.60)
Really hard to back a good mare when they’re in form and you don’t get a much better mare in better form then Roger James’ O’reilly five-year-old. She’s four from four this time in, including her last three at elite level coming off a NZ Stakes triumph to score the Ranvet in an upset and then The BMW over the 2400m last start. Whether she’ll be prime for a 2000m battle is the question as she was in the mix for a step up to the two miles for the Sydney Cup before the wet weather saw her shoot for this. She’s defeated most of these in her recent runs, including new favourite It’s A Dundeel by nearly two lengths in The BMW last time out so wouldn’t surprise if she had their measure again here.
