Mourayan has not recorded a race win since he took out the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) during the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, but has performed extremely well in two race starts this preparation.

The Alhaarth entire resumed with a narrow second place finish behind Fiorente in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on February 22 and worked home strongly to finish fourth in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 8.

Mourayan was included in the nominations for the Sydney Cup, but Lloyd Williams will instead give the eight-year-old a chance to return to winning form in Melbourne when he jumps from barrier 1e with Steven Arnold on his back on Saturday.

Macedon Lodge will have two runners in the 2014 Easter Cup; with Tanby (barrier four) set to contest the Group 3 event after resuming with a promising fourth in the VRC 150th Celebration Race (2000m) at Flemington on March 1.

David Hayes won the 2013 edition of the Easter Cup with imported stayer Jet Away and he has two chances to defend the title after including both Stipulate and Whisper Downs in the Easter Cup final field.

Stipulate (barrier three) is yet to record a race win in three starts in Australian, but returned to a semblance of his best form with a second place finish in the Silver Thomas Hanley Handicap (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 29, while Whisper Downs (barrier five) will be chasing his first race win since he took out the Baden Baden Trophy (2000m) in May of last year.

One of the only horses taking winning form into the 2014 Easter Cup is Chris Waller-trained Our Voodoo Prince, who has recorded two wins from two starts since arriving in Australia at the start of the year.

Our Voodoo Prince (barrier seven) made his Australian racing debut with a narrow win in the Surdex Steel Handicap (1600m) at Sandown on March 22 and came from the back of the field to score an impressive victory in the Community Raceday Handicap (2000m) at Flemington on April 5.

The only other last start winner in the 2014 Easter Cup field is Michael Moroney-trained Saint Or Sinner (barrier two), who has recorded wins in the New Zealand Bloodstock Handicap (1425m) at Werribee on January 26, the Mitavite Challenge Final (1600m) at Mornington on February 12, the Saintly Handicap at Flemington on March 1 and the Adelaide Galvanising Handicap (1600m) at Morphettville on March 29.

Other interesting runners in the 2014 Easter Cup field include Saab Hasan-trained Shoreham (barrier ten), 2012 South Australia Derby winner Zabeelionaire (barrier 17), imported galloper Akzar (barrier eight) and Peter Moody-trained Ancient King (barrier 14).
