Hallowed Crown made his racing debut with a win in the Early Quaddie Plate (1150m) at the Randwick Kensington track on March 26 and faced a substantial step-up in the Kindergarten Stakes, but showed an impressive turn-of-foot to run away from the rest of the field and score a comfortable win over the fast-finishing Washington Heights and Gai Waterhouse-trained Klammer.

Co-trainer James Cummings, who trains in partnership with his legendary grandfather Bart Cummings, has always had a high opinion of Hallowed Crown, but admitted that he was not surprised the son of Street Sense started at such long odds.

“He won here on debut two and a half weeks ago and we made a long range plan on that day to come to the Kindergarten,” Cummings said after the race.

“We have doubted ourselves ever since, but he just keeps improving.

“I understand why he starts at a big price, but this horse just keeps improving from one challenge to the next.

“The horse just absorbed the pressure here today and this horse will be a real carnival horse for the next few years to come I think.

“I think that he has a real future.

Christian Reith has partnered Hallowed Crown in both of his race starts and settled the two-year-old just off the pace before asking him for an extra effort coming around the final turn.

Reith was most impressed with the effort of Hallowed Crown, but revealed that he was slightly surprised by the dominant way that the juvenile ran away from the rest of the field.

“He surprise me today; I thought that he might have gotten a little bit lost when he hit the front,” Reith said.

“He was always travelling and never got off the bridle until I asked him at the furlong and he skipped away from them.

“He got to the front a bit sooner than I wanted to, but he is very classy this fellow and he will continue to do that.”
