Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Roger James’ smart Kiwi-trained filly Lady Cumquat has opened narrow favourite to win her Australian race debut at Randwick this Saturday in the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes against some strong local competition.
The Duke Of Marmalade three-year-old is one of a capacity 16 starters plus three emergencies accepted for this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) which brings the Doncaster Mile Day action to a close as Race 9 at 5:10pm (AEST).
Of the bumper list of three-year-old fillies in the Adrian Knox Stakes mix it is the raider from across the Tasman sitting top of the Ladbrokes.com.au markets at a current quote of $5.50.
Drawn in gate six with Nash Rawiller to rider, Lady Cumquat comes off a tidy two length win back home from March 29 having beaten them home in the Group 3 Manawatu Classic (2000m).
The Cambridge-based James has been enjoying great success this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival taking out the Ranvet Stakes – The BMW double with his talented mare Silent Achiever who is now favourite to win Saturday week’s $1 million Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).
He’s hoping another promising female from the stables in Lady Cumquat can then get the job done for him on Saturday.
Joining Lady Cumquat in the Adrian Knox Stakes odds at single figures are then:
- #8 Amanpour ($6) – Gai Waterhouse’s Northern Meteor filly gets in on just 54kg looking to earn a shot at the 2014 Australian Oaks next weekend for which she’s a $51 outsider to win, ran ninth last start at Kembla Grange in a shocker she’ll be out to improve on, winning back-to-back races over 1800m and 1900m respectively before that by a combined nine lengths
- #1 Arabian Gold ($7) – David Vandyke trains the 59kg top weight, the daughter of Dubawi needing to be at her best to handle the kilos which are four more than she carried to run 11th in the Keith Nolan Classic last start, did perform well when sixth in last year’s Crown Oaks however and won a barrier trial at Randwick last Friday
- #2 Role Model ($8.50) – Waterhouse’s Bel Danoro filly is the early market mover and second heaviest weighted with 57kg, ran a beauty when runner-up to Zanbagh first-up in the Keith Nolan in her Aussie debut, the Kiwi expat with Group 1 form back home
- #3 Metaphorical ($9) – Peter Moody-trained daughter of Dylan Thomas has drawn the inside alley so need to watch out in this big field that will likely face off on a soft track, looks like they will appreciate the extra distance and has been thereabouts all prep including a last start third in the Keith Nolan
Other notable Adrian Knox Stakes fillies this year at more generous odds for an upset then include Guy Walter’s Missvonn ($10) down in class after a Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes sixth last Saturday, Marmelo ($11) from Waller’s stables, the Hawkes-trained Moorluv ($11) seeing Black Type for the first time, last start Wyong winner Estonian Princess ($12) and Walter’s other runner High Harmony ($13).
