Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Schweppervescence Stakes is always one of the major lead-up races to the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and the 2014 edition of the race is set to be no exception; with a number of talented fillies included in the final field for the Group 3 event that was formerly known as the Auraria Stakes.
Girl In Flight (barrier two) has opened as a narrow favourite in 2014 Schweppervescence Stakes betting markets after performing fairly in three starts during the 2014 Melbourne Festival Of Racing.
The Commands filly started her campaign with a third place finish in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 15 and finished an unlucky third in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on March 8 before finishing within a length of the winner in the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 21.
Girl In Flight is currently on top of betting markets at odds of $2.60, but there has also been plenty of support for Darren Weir-trained May’s Dream who has opened at a quote of $3.20.
May’s Dream (barrier eight) performed consistently during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, highlighted by a second place finish in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m), and resumed with a fair fourth in the 1Print.Com.Au Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 14 before returning to the winners circle with an impressive performance in the Pantry Packer Handicap (1523m) at the same venue on March 29.
The only other runner in the 2014 Schweppervescence Stakes final field that is available at single figure odds is Peter Moody-trained In Masquerade ($8.50).
In Masquerada recorded her maiden race win at Yarra Valley on March 16 and stamped himself as a genuine 2014 Australasian Oaks contender with a narrow win over Every Faith and Abba in the Listed Laelia Sakes (1600m) at Morphettville on March 29.
Other key runners in the 2014 Schweppervescence Stakes field include Robert Smerdon-trained Every Faith (barrier ten), talented filly Love The Rock (barrier five), last start winner Rasa Lila (barrier four) and the consistent Abba (barrier seven).
