2014 Adrian Knox Stakes Field Features Role Model

Gai Waterhouse-trained Role Model has been included in the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes final field and is set to have her second race start in Australia in the Group 3 event at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Role Model (barrier two) joined the Waterhouse stable at the end of last year, after performing fairly at Group level in New Zealand, and stamped herself as an Australian Oaks contender with a strong second behind Zanbagh in the Group 3 Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 23.

The Bel Danoro filly was primed for the Adrian Knox Stakes with a barrier trial over 1250 metres at Randwick on Friday and she worked home fairly to finish fourth behind Arabian Gold.

Waterhouse also has Northern Meteor filly Amanpour (barrier nine) and Aztec Rose (barrier 14) in the field for the Group 3 event this weekend.

Arabian Gold (barrier ten) has also been included in the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes field and connections are hoping that she can recapture the form that she showed during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.

The Dubawi filly performed fairly behind Guelph in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400n) and won the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m), but has been unable to replicate that form this campaign; finishing fifth in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), eighth in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) and 11th in the Keith Nolan Classic.

Also backing up from the Keith Nolan Classic is Peter Moody-trained Metaphorical, who will jump from the inside barrier with Brenton Avdulla on his back this weekend.

Metaphorical started his racing career with two straight wins in spring last year and has returned to the races with a third place finish in the Group 2 Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 22 before finishing sixth in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) and third in the Keith Nolan Classic.

Arguably the most interesting runner in the Adrian Knox Stakes is Lady Cumquat and she has the chance to continue the strong run of Roger James in Sydney this weekend.

Lady Cumquat broke through for her maiden win at Group level with an impressive performance in the Group 3 Higgins Manawatu Classic (2000m) at Awapuni on March 29 and is one of the few horses in the Adrian Knox Stakes field that is a proven performer over 2000 metres.

Guy Walter has both Sweet Jaffa (barrier 12) and High Harmony (barrier three) in the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes field, while Anthony Cummings will also be represented by multiple runners; with Paris Match (barrier 19) and Mary Lou (barrier 13) to contest the race.
