2014 Doncaster Prelude Field Released

A capacity 2014 Doncaster Prelude field was released by Racing New South Wales stewards this morning; with a number of talented gallopers chasing ballot exempt entry into the Doncaster Mile that will be run at Royal Randwick on April 12.

Chris Waller dominates the 2014 Doncaster Prelude and will have an incredible six runners in the Group 3 event that will be run at Rosehill Gardens this weekend.

Headlining the Waller-trained charge is imported stayer Weary, who has performed well in two race starts since arriving in Australia at the end of 2013.

Weary (barrier six) made his Australian racing debut with a third place finish behind Ecuador and Kaypers in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15 and he performed well in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22.

Lucky Chappy (barrier fifteen) is having just his second race start in Australia after failing to fire in the BMW Handicap (1400m) during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, while Diametric (barrier one), Wazn (barrier 19), I’m Imposing (barrier seven) and Danchai (barrier two) will also represent Waller in the 2014 Doncaster Prelude.

Strawberry Boy (barrier five) remains on track to contest the Doncaster Mile and connections are hoping that he can end the biggest losing streak of his career in the Doncaster Prelude this weekend.

The Redoute’s Choice gelding started his autumn preparation with a disappointing seventh in the Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 1, but returned to his best form with a second place finish in the Group 3 Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle on March 19.

Team Hawkes have been the star stable of the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival to date and have another progressive gelding set to make his debut at Group level in the Doncaster Prelude this weekend.

Leebaz (barrier four) started his autumn campaign with back-to-back wins in the Ezymart Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on February 22 and the Pro-Ride Handicap (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 20 – form that was franked when runner-up Canny Ballad took out the Albury Gold Cup in impressive fashion last Friday.

Malavio will carry the top-weight of 58 kilograms in the Doncaster Prelude and will jump from barrier 12 with Brenton Avdulla on board.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained duo of The Great Snowman (barrier eight) and Almighty Charge (barrier three), the resuming Destiny’s Kiss (barrier four), Scone-based Kaypers (barrier 17) and Michael Moroney-trained Rhythm To Spare have also been included in the 2014 Doncaster Prelude Final Field.
