Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has included seven horses in the 2014 Neville Sellwood Stakes nominations, but only a couple of his gallopers are expected to contest the Group 1 event.
Headlining the Waller-trained stars in the Neville Sellwood Stakes is triple Group 1 winner Boban, who was far from disgraced when seventh on a slow track in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens last weekend.
Boban has been set for a tilt at the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 19 and is only an outside chance of contesting the Neville Sellwood Stakes this weekend.
Foreteller, Hawkspur, Junoob and Moriarty have all been included in the nominations for both the Neville Sellwood Stakes and the Group 1 The BMW (2400m).
Foreteller, Hawkspur and Moriarty are all expected to contest the Group 1 event, while Waller is still undecided about what to do with Junoob, who was scratched from the Group 3 Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens last weekend.
Imported stayer Permit was also scratched from the Manion Cup and is set to contest the Neville Sellwood Stakes this weekend, while Diametric is also expected to run in the Group 3 race after finishing seventh behind Entirely Platinum in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22.
Entirely Platinum stamped himself as a gelding to watch with his impressive win in the Sky High Stakes and he will have the opportunity to score his second win at Group level in the Neville Sellwood Stakes this weekend.
Gai Waterhouse has also included multiple runners in the 2014 Neville Sellwood Stakes nominations and has a strong record in the race in recent years after taking out the 2012 edition of the race with Western Symbol; with Hippopus, Julienas and Vaquera set to fly the flag for the leading trainer on Saturday.
Hippopus is a chance of returning to Group level after starting his campaign with a fifth place finish in a benchmark 85 event at Warwick Farm on March 20, while Julienas faded in the final stages of the Sky High Stakes.
Vaquera was set to run in the Manion Cup last weekend, but was scratched from the event and the staying mare has been included in the nominations for both the Sellwood Stakes and the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m).
Other interesting 2014 Neville Sellwood Stakes nominations include last start winner Angola, imported stayer Less Is More, 2010 Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday and David Hayes-trained Spillway.
The 2014 Neville Sellwood Stakes final field will be released on Wednesday.
