Bring Me The Maid Continues Strong Form in 2014 Magic Night Stakes

Talented filly Bring Me The Maid has continued her sensational career start at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon, producing an incredible turn of foot to win the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and claim a ballot-free entry into next weekend’s Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

Jumping poorly, Bring Me The Maid appeared up against the odds from the outset, but quickly recovered and found reasonable position well within the field as early leaders Donelle, Lanikai and Aerobar dictated a fair tempo.

Rounding the final bend wide, Bring Me The Maid appeared to be caught in the rhythm of several horses moving inside, but immediately upped the tempo and found the front of the field over only a few strides, finishing half-a-length in the clear of Peggy Jean and Sultry Feeling; the former also overcoming a poor jump to finish well.

Trainer Peter Moody was delighted with Bring Me The Maid’s performance in the Magic Night Stakes, particularly in honouring the memory of late, great co-owner Roy Higgins and gaining assured entry to the Slipper.

“It was always the plan to be here if she was going to do well enough, and we had a couple of tumultuous weeks there” Moody said following the race.

“We were keen to have her in Melbourne and run her on the Friday night, Roy’s funeral was the day before and things didn’t go our way.

“I said to Wylie (Dalziel, co-owner) we’ll take her back up to Sydney and if she does we’ll run her, if not we’ll give her a trial and put her away.

“The bonus is I don’t have to train her now; she’s just trained herself.

“It’s just a matter of presenting her here in the same condition next week; she’ll have a trot round with the pony and have a swim and just keep a smile on her face for seven days; track conditions aren’t going to worry.”

Jockey Chad Schofield timed Bring Me The Maid’s final straight sprint perfectly, and is confident of continued success for the talented Sebring filly next weekend.

“A very determined filly; still very green” Schofield said immediately after dismounting.

“She was on the correct leg throughout but she was a bit wayward first-time going this direction but there’s a lot to improve on and she’s a very nice horse.

“I was a bit confident during the week when she galloped so strongly on Tuesday and she had a bit of ground to make up, but when I clocked her to the outside and put a couple around her tail she really hit the line strong.

“She’s still learning, she’s not the finished article yet but that run today will just top her off nicely for the next week and she’ll derive a lot of benefit out of today’s success.”
