The George Ryder Stakes 2014 is one of the three Group 1 features running at Rosehill Racecourse this weekend, and after going over the form guide below are our insider tips on the showdown.

There are 15 gallopers facing off in this year’s $1 million Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), the top three in the Ladbrokes.com.au markets prepared by Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller.

Waller’s top chance of scoring his fourth George Ryder win in the past five years is his dual Group 1 winning mare Red Tracer in gate 13 paying $3.

Next best in George Ryder Stakes betting is then last start Chipping Norton champ Boban ($6) who beat home It’s A Dundeel there and will be out for another upset win on the weekend.

Sacred Falls, winner of the Doncaster Mile in the mud last autumn, then occupies the third line of betting at $7 as the only other single figure chances.

Outside of Waller’s dominant trio are a host of other live wire chances not without their chances including the Guy Walter-trained Streama ($11) in gate three; smart three-year-olds El Roca ($11) and Eurozone ($10), and even European import Gordon Lord Byron ($19) coming off a Hong Kong mile fourth from December in their Aussie debut here.

So who are the genuine contenders and who are the pretenders?

#12 Red Tracer ($3)

Deserving favourite looking in ace form of breaking the hoodoo of mares in this race. The last female to win was back in 1986 but think the girls will represent this year. She’s a dual Group 1 winner, can handle all grounds and really could have won the Canterbury last start if she hadn’t all but fallen from the start. She’ll be better for her two runs this time in, has a top win rate (44%), the Waller factor (he’s prepared three of the past four winners in this race) and has an ace Rosehill record (10-4-4-0) with only six of her rivals also having won here, the distance is also a non-issue she’s won at elite level over a mile so plenty in her favour here.

#13 Streama ($11)

While it’s been a long time between drinks for the mares in this race, this year our top two are both females. Guy Walter’s stable is in ace form, but he’s had two recent blows with the retirement of Appearance and the season-ending injury of Not Listenin’tome. Think he’ll have something to smile about here though with this top Stratum mare ready to strike third-up. Last start was a Canterbury sixth but she got caught three wide and will be better for the run. Second in the Epsom last year on the back of a George Main Stakes win and if she can get back to that form she’ll be in this. Awesome place rate (72%) she’ll add to here.

#1 Boban ($6)

Going to be another top run from a top horse with plenty of upside still being just four. Won the Emirates Stakes over the Flemington mile in the spring and bought their Group 1 winning form to Sydney this season third-up in the Chipping Norton. They did it pretty easy there and going back to the 1500m will be flying.
