David Payne’s recent Triscay Stakes winner Lilliburlero is one of the top-rated nominations taken for the Birthday Card Stakes 2014 running this Saturday at Rosehill Racecourse.

A total of 18 fillies and mares make up the nominations for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m), a race won last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival by the Chris Waller-trained Arinosa.

Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Lilliburlero, if accepted, will be after her second Group 3 win of the carnival after a first-up win in the Triscay Stakes at Randwick in February.

Her latest effort was also decent when she was just run down to finish a long neck away second to A Time For Julia in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m) on March 15.

Also coming via a good performance in the Roy Higgins is Joe Pride’s third placed Recoinage who was second in the Triscay Stakes two back and fourth placegetter Single Style for Gary Portelli who improved on a Triscay ninth to finish a length off the winner.

Sydney’s premier trainer Waller meanwhile will shoot for back-to-back Birthday Card Stakes wins this year having nominated for his four-year-old Holy Delusions coming via a Roy Higgins sixth.

The top rated Birthday Card Stakes nominee then is the Guy Lowry & Grant Cullen-trained Irish Fling, the New Zealand-trained mare third-up here.

Darci Brahma five-year-old Irish Fling won the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap (1200m) first-up at Trentham in January in her maiden elite level appearance.

She then ran fourth behind Little Wonder at Ellerslie last time out on March 1 when blocked for a run in the Group 3 Darley Plate (1200m).

Her Group 1 triumph has earned her a trip across to the Tasman to chase some autumn glory down under then starting with Saturday’s Birthday Card Stakes.

Also high up the ballot are then the likes of the Peter Snowden-trained Group 3 winner Aerobatics who was third in the Magic Night Stakes on this day three years ago, Group 1 performed Blevic mare Avoid Lighting and Gai Waterhouse’s always honest Dehere mare Miss Stellabelle.

Miss Stellabelle was third to Arionsa in this race 12 months ago and is a decent chance to run top three again in her fourth run of her campaign.

Waterhouse’s other Birthday Card hope on the weekend is then last start winner Shahad, the Fastnet Rock filly coming off a resuming win at Canterbury.

The other last start winner in the mix is then the lightly-raced Jazz Song having just her fourth career start if accepted for trainer Mick Price.

Another three-year-old daughter of Fasnet Rock, Jazz Song has won two of her three starts so far most recently getting the better of them in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last month.
