Michael Kent’s Sydney Cup-bound mare Epingle will continue her 2014 campaign at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday having been nominated for the Sky High Stakes on the back of a Group 3 winning double in Tasmania.

The Pins six-year-old is one of 17 staying types making up the nominations for this autumn’s $150,000 Group 3 Sky High Stakes (1900m), a good lead-up race for gallopers heading towards the $1 million Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on April 19.

Epingle pays $21 in the futures Ladbrokes.com.au markets for their major autumn aim, the Sydney Cup 2014, a price she gets the chance to firm with a win on the weekend.

Saturday will be her first run since February 26 when Craig Williams guided her to a nice win in the Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m).

That victory followed her earlier Tassie success in the Group 3 Hobart Cup (2400m) 12 days earlier where she defeated ace local stayer Geegees Blackflash.

The shortest priced of this year’s Sydney Cup hopes nominated for the Sky High on Saturday meanwhile is the Chris Waller-trained Brigantin.

The imported Cozzene seven-year-old is yet to win down under but have come close a number of times including their last start third to Travolta in the Australia Day Cup from January.

Rated a $17 chance to take out this year’s Sydney Cup, Brigantin is joined in the Sky High nominations by stable mate Lunayir who pays $81 to win the Cup after their Canberra Cup fourth on March 9.

Other notable Sydney Cup-bound stayers entered for Saturday’s Group 3 include Prince Cheri ($18) coming via a Chipping Norton fifth first-up, Queensland Oaks winning Zabeel mare Gondokoro ($26), Let’s Make Adeal ($26) last seen running seventh to Fiorente in the Australian Cup and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Julienas ($34).

Runner-up in last spring’s The Metropolitan, seven-year-old Julienas is equal 59kg top weight for the Sky High along with Peter Moody’s Shirocco stallion Ibicenco, a $41 Sydney Cup hope.

Ibicencio will be first-up here if accepted following the Geelong Cup winner’s failure when 16th to Fiorente in the Melbourne Cup last November.

The complete Sky High Stakes 2014 nominations are detailed below, the list to be narrowed down to a capacity 14-starter final field on Wednesday morning.

In the meantime why not head over to Ladbrokes.com.au and get in on the futures Sydney Cup betting markets at the online betting agency rewarding new depositing players with a bonus welcome bet valued up to $250!
