Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
This Friday night under the lights at Moonee Valley a number mares eyeing a run in the $1 million Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) in Sydney next month will face off in the Sunline Stakes 2014.
Nominations for this year’s $220,000 Group 2 Sportingbet Sunline Stakes (1600m) have been extended until 10:00am (AEST) tomorrow with 14 mares making up the early entries.
Of those the better performed are 2014 Queen Of The Turf Stakes-bound at Randwick on April 19 including the Peter Moody-trained Are There Any.
The daughter of Exceed And Excel is a $151 roughie in Queen Of The Turf betting however, a price they’ll be out to shorten with a win on the weekend.
They come into the Sunline on some good Melbourne form having won at Flemington on February 15 before their last start fourth, defeated under two lengths by Bonaria in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) when blocked for a run.
Also coming via a run in that race are fellow Sunline hopes Text’n Hurley (2nd) for Colin Little and the Neville Parnham-trained WA raider Bippo No Bungus (3rd).
Hard Spun four-year-old Text’n Hurley is a $101 Queen Of The Turf chance as is Perth’s Dubawi mare Bippo No Bungus, winner of the Listed Starstruck Classic back home in December.
The shortest priced of the Sunline Stakes nominations in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes futures odds meanwhile is the Peter Moody-trained Floria ($51) followed by Nigel Blackiston’s Savabeel four-year-old You’re So Good ($67).
Savabeel six-year-old Floria won the Group 3 Summoned Stakes in the spring, and also ran third the prep before in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara in Brisbane, before her resuming third to Five All in the Group 3 Tressday Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 1.
She’s been nominated for both the Sunline Stakes in Melbourne as well as the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) in Sydney on Saturday.
You’re So Good is also a dual nominee this weekend.
She’s entered for two events at Friday evening’s meeting having also been entered for a shot at the Group 1, the $400,000 William Reid Stakes (1200m) with a decision on which race they’ll accept for pending.
Other notable Sunline hopes then include lightly raced Mornington-based mare Coronation Shallan coming via a black type third at Flemington and the Gwenda Johnstone-trained Precious Gem after their fourth consecutive win the last of their victories being at Moonee Valley from February 28.
The official Sunline Stakes 2014 nominations are detailed below, final fields for all the William Reid Stakes Night races due for release on Wednesday.
