Written Up Claims 2014 Bendigo Guineas

Exciting three-year-old Written Up has continued his strong career start this afternoon, claiming the 2014 Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) in impressive fashion.

Having jumped only fairly, the Written Tycoon gelding settled well within the pack racing down the back straight at Bendigo, nearly four lengths off the early pace of leaders The Bowler, Gracious Prospect and Bobcat.

Rounding the final bend in good position, Written Up quickly found the front of the field, maintained a strong sprint and finished a half-length ahead of Gracious Prospect and pre-post market mover Mahican.

Trainer George Osborne was understandably pleased with the impressive run produced by Written Up, but was quietly confident after heavy rain delayed the day’s proceedings and softened the Bendigo track.

“I thought barrier two became a bit of a handicap, but the wet track was always going to help us” Osborne said following the Bendigo Guineas.

“He’s been right on the money every time and today we had a little advantage on the weights that we didn’t have a Wangaratta (last time out)”.

“We had this race and the next race planned a long way out and we didn’t have him wound up the other day, so we were pretty confident we’d run a big race but gee they’re hard to win.

“There’s a Vobis Gold mile race at Flemington in two weeks and that’s been on our range for about 12 months.

Jockey Jamie Mott delivered a perfectly timed ride on the exciting gelding, and was thrilled to secure a Bendigo Guineas win for Osborne.

“I’m very pleased this horse has finally won for George, he’s been very patient and he’s mapped his races out really well, so he deserves a win.”

“First time I rode him I really liked him going forward and there’s so much more improvement still there yet to come.

“He’s a very exciting horse.”
