A Time For Julia Continues Strong 2014 in Roy Higgins Tribute

Classy filly A Time For Julia has continued her strong start to 2014, producing a strong turn of foot in the final straight to claim the 2014 Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute Quality (1200m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Having jumped fairly, the talented daughter of Redoute’s Choice settled well within the pack, nearly six lengths off the pace of early leaders Meliora, Lilliburlero and Pentasia, and looked to have a lot to do when rounding the bend wide and well and truly off pace.

Once again producing a second-to-none final straight sprint, A Time For Julia was forced to use the entire final 500 metres to hunt down her rivals, poking ahead of Lilliburlero with less-than 50 to race, Recoinage running through to finish third.

Trainer Peter Moody has been thrilled with the way A Time For Julia has returned to the track in 2014, but said he was always confident of such a polished start for the talented four-year-old this season.

“It was good and pleasing for where we’re going in seven days” Moody said following the win.

“The manner in which she did it was the pleasing thing; she came off what wasn’t as strong a start as what we would have liked to have seen and still closed it out well.

“We’ve always held this opinion of her and I’m just glad to see it.

“I’ve always suggested to John that she’s a bit special; there’s probably no better bred filly in the land.

“I think she will be a Group 1 player in mares’ grade, whether it’s here in seven days’ time or back in Adelaide in the Sportingbet Classic, she’s going to be well up to those races.”

Jockey Blake Shinn delivered another strong ride on A Time For Julia in the Roy Higgins Tribute, and was particularly happy to claim the race in the name of the late, great Roy Higgins.

“It wasn’t that strong and she wanted to get back” Shinn said after the race.

“We got further back than I wanted to, but I was going to have be forced four wide and work her forward, so I elected to ride her where I was comfortable and stick off the back of Recoinage, which was always going to be the one to drag me into the right position.

“She’s a classy mare and it’s great to win a race in the name of Roy Higgins.

“There was probably 13 jockeys in that race today giving their all to win that race, and to come out and win; it means a lot to me.”
