2014 Aspiration Quality Betting Update

Having returned to the track in competitive form in 2014, classy runner Lucky Lago has claimed outright favouritism in betting markets for this weekend’s Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Currently offered at a generous price of $3.80, Lucky Lago has scored three wins and three places from only ten race starts to date, including third in a hard-fought Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) first-up at Rosehill Gardens two weeks ago.

Punters jumped all over an opening price of $4.10 for the talented Encosta De Lago mare, who looks likely to continue to firm in betting markets over the coming 48 hours.

Having undoubtedly received the largest number of wagers since betting markets first opened on Wednesday, Gai Waterhouse-trained Forever Loved is currently featuring as the clear market mover and outright second favourite for 2014 Aspiration Quality at a price of $4.20.

Forever Loved has quickly built to the task in three race starts this season, finishing off the pace in fifth in the Australian Turf Club Maiden (1300m) first-up before running an unlucky second to All Cerise in the Tab Rewards Maiden (1400m) and finally finishing in the clear by nearly two lengths in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1500m) most recently.

Having been allocated the slightly wide barrier 9 for the Aspiration Quality, Waterhouse is confident her High Chaparral filly can justify the resounding support of punters this weekend.

Arguably offering punters the best value of any runner in the 2014 Aspiration Quality, Guy Walter-trained Any Day Will Do was the big winner at Wednesday’s barrier draws, having been allocated the ideal barrier 1.

Whilst receiving only a sprinkling of bets so far, the Any Given Saturday mare is yet to reach peak form in 2014, but is well and truly worth a wager at $5.50 odds.

Only one other acceptor is currently featuring at odds of less-than $10, Express Power ($7.50) was one of the stand-out performers of the 2013 autumn, securing two wins and two seconds her four debut preparation starts.

Trainer Kris Lees is expecting a polished run from his star four-year-old in the Aspiration Handicap, ahead of a hopeful appearance in the 2014 Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in April.
