Waller Dominates 2014 Canterbury Stakes Final Field

Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller dominates acceptances for this Saturday’s Canterbury Stakes 2014 having paid up for a quartet of runners from his stables.

Waller is still celebrating his fourth straight Chipping Norton Stakes victory from last weekend, Boban getting the job done this year, and hopes the Group 1’s can continue when the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival moves to Royal Randwick this Saturday.

Two elite level features highlight the Randwick Guineas Day race card, the second of which is the $500,000 Group 1 Guinness Canterbury Stakes (1300m) where 10 top sprinters will face off.

Four of those 10 represent Waller including the sure-to-be favourite Zoustar.

Drawn in gate three with Jim Cassidy staying on, the return of this Northern Meteor colt has been highly anticipated.

During the spring Zoustar won three on the trot including a Group 1 double taking out both the Golden Rose Stakes in Sydney as well as Melbourne’s Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Heading towards a run in the $2.5 million Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) next month, for which they are already the top fancy in the futures Ladbrokes.com.au markets, Zoustar looks spot on for their first-up run here.

Waller’s three other Canterbury Stakes hopes this year are then reigning Doncaster Mile champion Sacred Falls in gate two who is also returning here, his star mare Red Tracer (barrier seven) coming off a first-up Millie Fox win shooting for third Group 1 trophy and My Kingdom Of Fife (barrier five).

Glyn Schofield has the job aboard rising 10-year-old import My Kingdom Of Fife who is back from retirement, not having raced since October 2011.

Guy Walter meanwhile has dual representation in the Canterbury Stakes field with Appearance in the far outside barrier and Bernardini four-year-old Toydini one beside his star stable mate in nine.

Appearance definitely has strong claims here, the 2012 Myer Classic winner having taken out the Coolmore Classic – Queen Of The Turf Stakes double last autumn.

The five-year-old daughter of Commands is unbeaten this time in with two Group 2 victories in the Expressway Stakes and then the Apollo Stakes over 1400m at Randwick.

Speediness, the Joe Pride-trained Rain Affair and Not Listenin’tome finish off the field.

The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained Dylan Thomas three-year-old Not Listenin’tome (barrier six) may come into the race with only five career runs but they’ll be there challenging no doubt.

Runner-up to Zoustar in the Coolmore Stud Stakes last prep they come off a first-up victory at Caulfield in the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m) which they won by four lengths on February 22.
