A number of young colts and geldings with Golden Slipper dreams will face off in Sydney’s Skyline Stakes 2014 as part of Randwick Guineas Day this weekend.

Saturday’s $175,000 Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) has attracted 10 two-year-olds at nomination stage, four less than the fillies’ version the Sweet Embrace Stakes.

Both races offer a ballot exemption for the winner into the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill next month.

Number one on the ballot is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Gold Force coming off a win on debut.

The Flying Spur gelding handled their rivals with ease in the Inglis Premier 1200m at Mornington on February 12, Craig Williams guiding them to a three length victory they’ll be out to emulate on Saturday.

Runner-up in that race, the Paul Perry-trained Modoc, has also been entered for the Skyline.

The Haradasun gelding won their two career openers in January and is out to improve on their last start sixth behind Mossfun in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago.

Gold Force is nominated for Golden Slipper and currently pays $41 in the Slipper markets while Modoc pays $71 to win the world’s richest juveniles’ race.

Also coming off a win is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Valentia and Gerald Ryan’s resuming Snitzel colt Time For War who won at Rosehill on November 2 over 1100m.

Fastnet Rock colt Valentia debuted with a third at Randwick, improving to win their next start at the track when stepped up to 1200m on February 22.

Waterhouse has also nominated for Giuliani, the Manhattan Rain colt racing for the first time since their second on debut back in October last year, who is a $51 chance in Golden Slipper future odds.

Other notable Skyline Stakes hopes then include the Anthony Cummings-trained son of Danehill Dancer Zizumba,  Clarry Conners’ $101 Golden Slipper hope Rembrandt and the unraced Wilderness.

Prepared by David Hayes, Wilderness is a son of Fastnet Rock from Gold Anthem and was a $2.4 million buy for connections at Coolmore who obviously have the Golden Slipper in mind.

The full Skyline Stakes 2014 nominations are detailed below with the final field and barrier draw for all the Randwick races this Saturday due out tomorrow.
