Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Queensland-based trainer Tony Gollan believes stable star Spirit Of Boom is the real deal in today’s major Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m), despite coming up against one the race’s most talented fields since the turn of the century.
Yet to win a race down the famous Flemington straight, Spirit Of Boom has returned to the track in in 2014 in top shape and offers punters sensational value for 2014 Newmarket glory at a current quote of $16.
Gollan is understandably confident in the talented Sequalo entire’s current form, and is excited by the prospect of jumping from barrier 5.
“He’s never won a race down the straight but he has run some great races and he obviously likes it there” Gollan told TVN.
“He’s in very good order right now and I think he’s drawn in the right spot.”
Having debuted on track in December of 2009 when second behind Jantzen in the Listed Ready Stakes (1000m), Spirit Of Boom has amassed seven wins and 17 places in 46 starts to date and is offered arguably his best chance of Group 1 glory in the Newmarket Handicap this afternoon.
A busy autumn campaign has been set for the talented six-year-old, with and appearance in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick slated before a likely return to Brisbane for the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
Spirit Of Boom is currently featuring as equal sixth-favourite in betting markets for Newmarket Handicap success at a quote of $16 behind favourite Samaready ($4.60), Shamexpress ($4.80), Lankan Rupee ($6), Knoydart ($11) and two-time Group 1 winner in 2014 Moment Of Change ($12).
