Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The 2014 Newmarket Handicap has drawn one of the strongest fields in the recent history of the event and the betting market for the Group 1 event is extremely competitive.
Samaready, Lankan Rupee and Shamexpress have been battling for favouritism in 2014 Newmarket Handicap betting markets since the final field was released earlier this week and at this point punters are unable to split the classy trio; with all three sprinters available at a quote of $4.80.
Shamexpress is aiming to become just the fifth horse in history to win the Newmarket Handicap in back-to-back years and continued his famous form down the famous Flemington straight when he finished second behind Snitzerland in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) on February 15.
Samaready returned to racing in the same event and battled home strongly to finish third and should be suited by the step-up to 1200 metres, while Lankan Rupee has been flawless during his autumn campaign; winning the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) and Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) in impressive fashion.
It is very tough to split the three leading contenders, so leading online bookmaker Ladbrokes.com.au is offering odds of $3 for Samaready, Shamexpress or Lankan Rupee to win the Newmarket Handicap!
Another Newmarket Handicap runner that has received plenty of support is Darley sprinter Knoydart, who is currently available at a quote of $11.
Knoydart started his autumn preparation with two impressive wins in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) and Listed Hareeba Stakes (1200m) before making his Group 1 debut with an impressive third in the Oakleigh Plate.
Also backing up from the Oakleigh Plate is consistent Queensland sprinter Spirit Of Boom, who is currently available at the lucrative Newmarket Handicap odds of $16.
Spirit Of Boom had no luck in the Oakleigh Plate, but was still able to storm home late to finish second and the son of Sequalo has been ultra-consistent at Group 1 level in the past 12 months; finishing fourth in the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) and Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
The best backed runner in 2014 Newmarket Handicap betting markets in the past 24 hours has been veteran gelding Pago Rock, who is now into a quote of $19 after being available at $26 less yesterday.
Trainer David Hayes believes that Pago Rock is well over the odds in the Newmarket Handicap after the son of Rock Of Gibraltar finished a most impressive fourth in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes. You can find the best Newmarket Handicap and odds and take advantage of the very special trio bet at Ladbrokes!
