Marianne to Upset Solicit in Kewney Stakes – Tips and Betting

13 runners have been confirmed to take to the 1400 metre course at Flemington this weekend for the Group 2 Kewney Stakes; offering punters several good chances to place a winning bet.

Having returned to the track in 2014 in top form, classy filly Solicit currently heads betting markets for the 2014 Kewney Stakes at a short quote of $2, ahead of Marianne ($6), Miss Rose De Lago ($8.50) and undoubted market mover Suavito ($12).

With only three entrants currently featuring at odds less-than $10, bookies believe the running of the Kewney Stakes will be particularly clear cut, meaning there is sufficient value to be had in tipping a winning trifecta.

Exciting filly Marianne has claimed two wins and three places from only six competitive starts to date, and was perhaps the biggest winner at the Kewney Stakes barrier draw, having been allocated the central gate 7. After finishing an unlucky second in her opening two runs for 2014; the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Angus Armanasco (1400m), trainer Michael Kent is confident of going one betting in the Kewney Stakes this weekend.

After claiming the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) first-up on February 15th, three-year-old Solicit is clear favourite for the 2014 Kewney Stakes, even after drawing the slightly awkward barrier 9. The classy Street Cry filly has not finished outside the places since her maiden run in March 2013, and arguably produced her best performance to date when third behind Kirramosa and Zanbagh in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) in November; her maiden tilt at Group 1 level. Jockey Damian Lane has been confirmed to retain the ride this weekend, and will be particularly difficult to beat if able to find a good path early.

Suavito ($11)

Yet to finish outside the top three in all of her five starts so far, Suavito has already been heavily backed from opening odds of $16 to a current quote of $11, registering as the un-rivalled market mover for the 2014 Kewney Stakes. After drawing the ideal barrier 2 for this weekend’s Group 2, local trainer Nigel Blackiston is confident the talented Thorn Park filly will deliver in her maiden tilt at Group level.
