Betting markets for the 2014 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) have so-far earmarked three potential winners for the Group 3 race at Warwick Farm this weekend, of a final field of 12 confirmed.
Having returned to the track in top form this preparation, exciting colt El Roca is currently featuring as outright $3.20 favourite for the 2014 Liverpool City Cup from White Sage ($3.70) and Terravista ($4.40).
Despite finishing well off the pace in both the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) so far this preparation, Jim Litt-trained Howmuchdoyouloveme has received huge attention from punters, who have seen an open price of $27 cut in drastically to a current quote of $17 and register the Written Tycoon gelding as the undoubted market mover.
Will El Roca continue his perfect start to 2014, or will one of his highly-rated adversaries pick up the 2014 Liverpool City Cup?
El Roca ($3.20)
El Roca has amassed three wins and one place from only five starts in his short racing career so far, including the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) last time out. Having been scratched from the final field of the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at the eleventh hour last weekend after receiving an illegal treatment, the talented Fastnet Rock colt opened as market favourite for the Liverpool City and has never looked like being usurped. Trainer Trent Busuttin is understandably confident in El Roca’s chances this weekend, particularly after drawing the central barrier 7.
White Sage ($3.70)
White Sage has secured an impressive five wins and one place from six competitive racing starts to date, including the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) ahead of Terravista and Alma’s Fury in November. Despite finishing third behind Catkins and Steps In Time in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) at Rosehill first-up on February 15th, trainer John O’Shea confirmed the Reset mare has returned to trainer far-stronger for the run, but will have to overcome the wide barrier 12 in the Liverpool City Cup.
Ninth Legion ($21)
Resuming gelding Ninth Legion represents excellent value to punters at odds of $21 for 2014 Liverpool City Cup glory. Having scored five wins from 18 race starts so far, the talented Fastnet Rock gelding closed a strong spring/early summer preparation with a comfortable win over Limes and Alma’s Fury in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1550m) on December 14th. Team Hawkes revealed earlier this week Ninth Legion will return to the track in great order, but will have to overcome the awkward barrier 11.
