Following her memorable 2013 campaign, Guelph is currently featuring as outright favourite for the 2014 Surround Stakes at a quote of $2.80, ahead of close rival Sweet Idea ($3.40), Real Surreal ($10) and Chateau Lafaite ($11).

Can Guelph return to her outstanding form of 2014 and secure the 2014 Surround Stakes, or will Sweet Idea continue her good run of form this preparation?

Sweet Idea ($3.40)

Sweet Idea has returned to the track in 2014 in near-perfect form, having claimed three wins from as many starts including the Magic Million Guineas (1400m) and Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) most recently. Despite drawing the wide barrier 13, trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident Tommy Berry can again lead the Snitzel filly into good position and continue her perfect start to the year.

Guelph ($2.80)

Guelph was arguably the best Australian racehorse over the entire 2013 calendar, claiming seven wins from 10 starts including four at Group 1 level. Having secured early favouritism for the Light Fingers Stakes first-up on February 22nd, the talented Exceed And Excel filly was unable to match the late pace of her competitors and finished off the pace in sixth. Despite the less-than-convincing result, trainer Peter Snowden is confident Guelph will be better for the race fitness gained, and is confident of second-up success in the Surround Stakes.

Marmelo ($67)

Having claimed two wins from only three starts to date, Chris Waller-trained Marmelo offers punters incredible value at $67 ($15 for a place) for the 2014 Surround Stakes. Allocated the central gate 7 at Wednesday’s barrier draws, Marmelo will be partnered by jockey Jason Collett for the first time and is aiming for an appearance in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) if successful this weekend.
