Connections of progressive three-year-old El Roca have decided to skip the Group 1 Chipping Norton this weekend instead accepting for them in the Liverpool City Cup 2014 field at Warwick Farm.

Originally a dual nominee for the weekend’s Sydney meet, Trent Busuttin’s visiting Kiwi colt was also entered for the $500,000 Chipping Norton Stakes over the mile.

However it is an easier assignment they’ll face when they take their spot from barrier seven of 12 in the $150,000 Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m).

A chance to contest the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 12, the Fastnet Rock three-year-old resumed for the season with an impressive first-up win by two lengths in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 15.

Now they’ll jump likely favourite in the Liverpool City Cup with Christian Reith taking over for Hugh Bowman who is engaged to ride rival Ninth Legion.

Drawn wide in barrier 11 the Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained Ninth Legion kicks off their autumn campaign here not having raced since their win in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1550m) at Randwick’s Kensington track in mid-December.

The other last start winner in the mix is then the Joe Pride-trained Terravista (barrier nine).

A winner of five of their seven starts to date the Captain Rio four-year-old was runner-up in the Festival Stakes in November, returning on February 22 to beat home Albrecht in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m).

Also coming via a nice early autumn run are the likes of Peter Snowden’s veteran sprinter Pinwheel (barrier five) coming off a Group 1 third to Moment Of Change in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield, the John O’Shea-trained Festival Stakes winning Reset mare White Sage (barrier 12) who ran third to Catkins in the Group 2 Breeders Classic three weeks back and Jim Litt’s honest Stratum mare My Destiny who has finished in the money in their four most recent runs including their Southern Cross third to Terravista.

Drawn ideally in gate two with Glyn Schofield in the saddle, My Destiny will be joined in the Liverpool City Cup by stable mate Howmuchdoyoulove (barrier six) coming off a fifth to Appearance in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes.

Other notable hopes then include Gai Waterhouse’s David Jones Cup winner from the spring Spurtonic (barrier eight) and Shamardal mare Cameo to be ridden by Sydney apprentice Sam Clipperton.
