Bonaria Tops 2014 Schweppervescence Trophy Nominations

Pat Hyland’s in-form mare Bonaria is the top rated nominee for the 2014 Schweppervescence Trophy at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse this Saturday.

The Redoute’s Choice five-year-old is one of 13 mares nominated for this year’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m), also known as the Matron Stakes.

She is after her second win of the autumn after her smart second-up effort to take out the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 22.

If all goes to plan, Hyland has Group 1 ambitions for Bonaria this autumn having nominated her for the $400,000 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in April.

Also coming via a run in the Mannerism are the likes of third placed Hi Belle who won that race back in 2012 and fourth placegetter Angelic Lass.

Other last start winners nominated for the Schweppervescence Trophy this year then include Inglis Easter winner at Moonee Valley Text’N Hurley, the flying Are There Any for Peter Moody coming off a 1700m effort at the Flemington track and the Darren Weir-trained Five All.

Court Of Jewels four-year-old Five All has finished top three in all of her runs since a disappointing debut as a juvenile back in May of 2012.

She’s also shown a liking for Flemington (4-1-2-1) breaking her black type maiden with a Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) victory here just last Saturday.

Not without their claims also if accepted are the likes of Craig Williams’ mount Keep De Rose out to improve on their first-up sixth to Bonaria in the Mannerism, the improving Coronation Shallan and the lightly-raced Scratchy Bottom who is two from four to date coming off a fourth in the Group 3 The Mitty’s Vanity to Solicit.

The full Schweppervescence Trophy 2014 nominations are listed below, final acceptances for all the Newmarket Handicap Day races to be released on Wednesday.
