Guy Walter is confident the 2014 autumn preparation of Appearance will not take a hit, despite the leading trainer removing the talented five-year-old from nominations for this weekend’s Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm.
Having previously outlined the Chipping Norton as a major stepping stone for the classy Commands mare this campaign, Walter revealed this week he has not been happy with Appearance’s condition since claiming the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) on February 22nd, saying she had been tying up.
Commenting on the number of major events before the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600) on April 12th, Walter said the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on March 15th will now come into the equation for Appearance.
“I’ll probably the go to the George Ryder (1500) and then the Doncaster” Ryan told TVN.
“Running a mile is not crucial at this stage. I’m not that worried.”
Appearance debuted on track with a near-two length victory in the 2011 Bacardi Bar Handicap (1200m) and has since claimed the 2012 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m), 2013 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) from just four tilts at Group 1 level.
Having returned to the track in blistering form in 2014, Appearance scored a strong first-up win over River Lad and Moriarty in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) on February 8th before securing a near two-length win over Speediness and Moriarty in the Apollo Stakes.
With the Doncaster Mile just over one month away, Appearance is currently featuring as outright $10 early favourite for the major Group 1 event ahead of Eskimo Prince Stakes champion El Roca ($11), in-form gelding Ecuador ($12) and champion miler Guelph ($12).
