Mossfun Continues Perfect Career Start in 2014 Silver Slipper

Talented filly Mossfun has continued her perfect career start for Team Hawkes, claiming the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this afternoon ahead of a particularly classy field.

Having received huge support from punters late, the Mossman filly jumped $3 favourite and took up the pace early before falling back into the pack and holding prime position on the heels of leaders Law and Risen From Doubt rounding the final bend.

Showing an impressive turn of foot, Mossfun easily passed all rivals in the final 200 and strolled in to claimed the Silver Slipper and lay a serious claim on betting markets for the 2014 Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in April.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes told the media his team was always confident in a successful run today immediately following the race, and believes she is one to beat in the Golden Slipper.

“Going into this we were pretty confident and so was James (McDonald) and she just bloused them” Hawkes said.

“She’s just kept improving and she’ll continue to improve.

“From day one she’s just been a real professional and I think people will take note of her now.

“We knew what we had but you just sort of have to poke along and we’ve been keeping under the radar a bit but she’s exposed now.

“She’s done three from three and you can’t ask for much more.”

Jockey James McDonald delivered a perfectly-timed ride in the Silver Slipper and revealed his admiration for the incredible rise to form produced by Team Hawkes and Mossfun.

“She’s impressive, just professional” McDonald said after the race.

“She’s improved so much since I last rode her and she’s just going on in leaps and bounds; they’ve done an incredible job with her.

“I was doing half-pace next to Law who was struggling a little bit and when I let this girl go she just put two lengths on them with ease.”

Mossfun will now head towards a likely run in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) before returning to Rosehill to contest the 2014 Golden Slipper. is currently offering the best odds on the 2014 Golden Slipper!
