The 2014 Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) at Flemington today will feature just eight runners after David Hayes-trained Wilderness was removed from the race earlier this week.
Mick Price-trained debutant More Radiant is currently outright favourite for the 2014 Sports 1000 at a quote of $2.60 ahead of Eloping ($3.20), Bullpit ($5.50) and Bring Me The Maid ($11).
Can More Radiant live up to the hype and deliver first-up, or will Eloping carry her strong run of form into today’s race 1 at Flemington?
Eloping has opened her so-far short career in fantastic form, winning the Members Celebration Maiden (900m) and Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) before running a strong second to star two-year-old filly Earthquake in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100) on February 8th. Having drawn the ideal barrier 4 for the 2014 Sports 1000, Eloping will be particularly hard to beat with regular jockey Stephen Baster retaining the ride.
Hostwin Pegasus ($15)
Having contested three strong barrier trials at Rosehill, Hostwin Pegasus debuted on track second behind exciting colt Law in the Adaptra Handicap (1000m) on February 8th and stamped his claims as a 2014 Golden Slipper contender. Drawing barrier two mid-week for today’s Listed event at Flemington, Hostwin Pegasus is legitimately capable of figuring in contention in the race’s dying stages.
More Radiant ($2.60)
More Radiant claimed a strong Cranbourne barrier trial on January 30 and has since become one of the country’s most highly anticipated two-year-olds. Mick Price is confident of first-up success for the More Than Ready filly, who will have to overcome the wide barrier 9 if she is to figure.
