The 2014 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) will figure as one of three major Group 2 events at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday but is shaping as easily one of the day’s most highly anticipated races, boasting an evenly-balanced final field.
Five of the eleven runners confirmed for race 6 at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow are currently offered at a quote of less-than $10, however it is Trent Busuttin-trained star El Roca who currently heads betting markets at a price of $2.80 from Atlante ($5) and Woodbine ($6).
Will El Roca justify his resounding favouritism in the 2014 Hobartville Stakes, or can one of his 10 opponents cause the day’s biggest upset?
El Roca burst onto the racing scene in his debut preparation last spring; following up wins in his first two starts which included the Listed Challenge Stakes (1200m) with an unlucky second behind Eclair Big Bang in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), before closing his campaign with arguably his strongest performance when fifth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m). Having returned to the track in scintillating form in 2014, the exciting Fastnet Rock colt appears in line to follow up first-up success in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) this weekend, despite drawing barrier 10.
Dissident was one of the most consistent performer of the 2013 spring, finishing second behind Zoustar in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 14th before closing his campaign fourth behind Long John in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in October. Having run a close second to El Roca in the Eskimo Prince two weeks ago, trainer Peter Moody is confident the talented Sebring colt can go one better in the Hobartville Stakes this weekend.
Koroibete has flown under the radar since debuting on track in May 2013, finishing no worse-than third in six starts which have included three wins. Trainer Gerald Ryan has a high opinion on the three-year-old son of Kheleyf, and has outlined an appearance in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) as the major target this preparation, depending on this weekend’s result.
