Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) has been released, and is highlighted by the confirmation star mare Red Tracer will return for the first time in 2014 at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Red Tracer produced one of the most consistent 2013 campaigns of any Australian runner; winning three races and scoring three seconds in only seven starts that included both the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).
Trainer Chris Waller revealed the classy Dane Shadow mare has returned to the track in prime condition in 2014, and is particularly confident of first-up success after drawing the ideal barrier 2.
Waller will be offered double the chance of success in the 2014 Mille Fox Stakes, having also accepted a position in the final field for classy mare Royal Descent (barrier 7).
Royal Descent ended her 2013 campaign in less-than-ideal form, following a strong run for second in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) with a forgettable 11th in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and also finishing outside the places in the Caulfield Cup (2400).
Waller is confident however of a return to form for the classy daughter of Redoute’s Choice in 2014, having saddled Royal Descent to a standout 2013 autumn preparation that produced four wins from seven starts including the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).
Having claimed the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 8th, A Time For Julia is in prime position to continue her perfect start to 2014 in the Millie Fox Stakes after drawing barrier 3.
The classy four-year-old won two races from only three starts in her maiden preparation over the spring of 2012, and returned to the spelling paddock for nearly 12 months before reappearing in August last year when second behind Octavia in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m).
Trainer Peter Moody had also nominated A Time For Julia for an appearance in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday, but has decided to keep the Redoute’s Choice mare in Sydney with a view to the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick in two weeks’ time.
Danny Bougoure-trained Longport (barrier 1) has also been confirmed for her first-up run in 2014 in the Millie Fox Stakes, and will be further joined by Cameo (barrier 5), Lucky Lago (barrier 4) and Gai Waterhouse-trained Dreifontein (barrier 6).
