Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Nominations for the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) have been released, with several proven performers in 2014 poised to line up at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday, including Law.
Having claimed two race wins in as many starts over his short racing career so far, Law debuted in October with a strong victory in the Listed NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) before returning to the track to beat Hostwin Pegasus and Klammer by three-and-a-half lengths in the Adaptra Handicap (1000m) on February 8th.
Trainer Gai Waterhouse, who has also nominated Hampton Court for the 2014 Silver Slipper, has a high opinion of the talented two-year-old colt and believes Law is a legitimate challenger for the 2014 Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th, for which he currently sits at $10 third favourite in betting markets.
Also included in nominations for the 2014 Silver Slipper Stakes is Ghibellines.
Opening his 2014 campaign third behind Fighting Sun and Mr Cha Cha in the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) first-up on February 15th, Ghibellines is set to make his debut at Group level in this weekend’s Silver Slipper.
Trainer Peter Snowden has outlined the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) as a likely stepping stone for the talented Sharmardal colt ahead of a hopeful tilt at the Golden Slipper a fortnight later on April 5th.
Carrying winning form into the 2014 Silver Slipper, talented two-year-old Mossfun is so-far unbeaten in two starts, including a strong victory over Ygritte and Twirl in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 15th.
An appearance in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) has been earmarked by Team Hawkes for the classy Mossman filly, should the two-year-draw a poor barrier in the Golden Slipper a week prior.
Debuting on course in October, exciting colt Unencumbered currently sits outright second-favourite in Golden Slipper betting markets following a meteoric rise to prominence over summer, and has also been included in nominations for the Silver Slipper.
Claiming five wins from six starts, the son of Testa Rossa has already earned more than $1.7 million in prize money thanks largely to his strong victory over Oakleigh Girl and Ruby Soho in the $2 million Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast last time out.
Chris Waller-trained Brazen Beau is poised for a second-up appearance in the 2014 Silver Slipper, with Memorial, Modoc, Press Report and Risen From Doubt rounding out nominations for the Group 2 feature at Rosehill this weekend.
