Having appeared in early nominations for this Saturday’s major Group 1 feature at Flemington, owner David Moodie has elected to remove Solicit from an appearance in the Australian Guineas (1600m) with a view to a lengthy autumn preparation.
Despite featuring as outright second-favourite in betting markets for the 2014 Australia Guineas behind 2014 CS Hayes Stakes champion Hucklebuck, Solicit will instead contest the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) on March 8th, as confirmed by Moodie this morning.
“I’m just thinking long-term; I’ve always been inclined in that direction” Moodie told TVN.
“Second-up, capacity field, 1600m and you could draw bad. I just don’t want to bottom her out.”
Following the Kewney Stakes, Moodie further revealed Solicit will then move on to Sydney for a likely tilt at either the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) or Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m); both featuring at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on March 22nd.
“I’ve just taken a long term view to it. She has her life ahead of her and she is probably not as seasoned as we would want to see her yet” Moodie added.
“We will just go the softer route.”
Having shot to prominence via her particularly consistent 2013 spring preparation, Solicit followed up wins in the City Of Ballarat Plate (1100m) and Sportingbet Best Tote Plate F (1200m) with an impressive third behind Kirramosa and Zanbagh in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 7th.
The classy Street Cry Filly has returned to the track in scintillating form in 2014, producing a huge sprint to finish three lengths ahead of Critical Angel and Girl In Flight in the Group 3 The Vanity at Flemington on February 15th.
