Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A talented field of nine has nominated for the 2014 Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill this Saturday, and is set to host the return of star mare Red Tracer for the first time in 2014.
Following a 2013 Autumn campaign that delivered three wins and three seconds from seven starts including victory in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), Red Tracer continued her strong run of form through a short spring campaign; claiming the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) before ending the year first in front of Catkins and Fire Up Fifi in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m)
Trainer Chris Waller has slowly returned the daughter of Dane Shadow to the track in 2014 and has been impressed by her show of form through 3 barrier trials at Rosehill.
Another busy campaign has been outlined for Red Tracer this preparation, with the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) featuring as the major target.
Having claimed the 2013 edition of the Millie Fox Stakes, Red Tracer will need to find immediate form if she is to overcome a field that is also set to include classy stablemates Catkins and Royal Descent.
Following a 2013 Spring campaign that delivered nothing less than a place finish in six starts, Catkins has returned to the track in 2014 in scintillating form, highlighted by a strong win over Steps In Time and White Sage in the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) at Rosehill on February 15th.
Catkins and Red Tracer appear on course to meet several times throughout 2014, with the Doncaster Mile also featuring as a likely target for the talented Dubawi mare.
Despite noticeably burning out through the spring, Royal Descent was one of the leading performs of the 2013 autumn, scoring strong wins in four of seven starts including the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) ahead of Dear Demi and Gondokoro.
Waller has earmarked the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 19th during the inaugural The Championships at Royal Randwick as the major target for the Redoute’s Choice mare this preparation.
Also included in nominations for the 2014 Millie Fox Stakes is Driefontein.
Having claimed six wins from 21 starts to date, Gai Waterhouse-trained Driefontein was disappointing when sixth behind Catkins in the Breeders’ Cup two weekends ago.
Aiming for the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) in April, Waterhouse is confident of a vastly improved run from the Fastnet Rock mare this weekend.
2014 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) champion A Time For Julia has also been included in nominations for the 2014 Millie Fox Stakes, and is set to be joined by Cameo, Express Power, Longport and Lucky Lago for Race 3 at Rosehill this Saturday.
