Trainer Peter Snowden has revealed exciting Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) champion Earthquake will return to Sydney today following her maiden Group 1 triumph at Caulfield over the weekend and begin preparations for a tilt at the 2014 Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th.
Confident of overcoming the awkward barrier 15 in the Blue Diamond Stakes on Saturday, Snowden told TVN that even has was blown away by the incredible turn of foot shown by his star filly and believes her best is still yet to be seen.
“She even surprised me, she was breathtaking” Snowden said.
“She was as fit as I could get her, but I could see in her work and her condition that she had not peaked.
“When you think how easy she won her first start and she won just as easy yesterday. She hasn’t had gut bustling runs; there is a lot more there and there will need to be.”
Aiming to become just the sixth runner to secure the lucrative Blue Diamond Stakes/Golden Slipper double, Snowden outlined the Group 2 Riesling Stakes (1200m) on March 22nd as the only event likely to fall into Earthquake’s schedule before the Golden Slipper a fortnight later.
“She has to go up another notch for the Slipper, but I believe she is capable of doing it” Snowden added.
Having so convincingly won her three competitive starts to date; the TAB IPhone App Plate (1000m), Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m) and Blue Diamond Stakes, Earthquake has been cut drastically in betting markets for the 2014 Golden Slipper; currently featuring as the resounding $2.90 favourite ahead of Unencumbered ($7.50) and Law ($10).
Unable to match the late pace of Earthquake in their highly-anticipated showdown on the weekend, classy colt Rubick has noticeably drifted for Golden Slipper success and is now offered at a quote of $26.
