2014 Hobartville Stakes Nominations Released

A less-than capacity field appears likely for the 2014 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday after nominations for the Group 2 event revealed only eleven of a possible 13 spaces have been filled, including Dissident.

Despite being unable to claim a victory since taking out the Listed Blue Diamond Preview C&G (1000m) on debut in January 2013, Dissident has produced a particularly consistent nine race career to date; peaking when second behind Zoustar in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 14th.

Having returned to the track with a strong sprint to claim second in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 15th, the classy Sebring colt will be offered a chance to return the favour to Eskimo Prince champion El Roca this weekend, who has also been included in nominations for the 2014 Hobartville Stakes.

Failing to finish outside the places on only one occasion over five starts, El Roca has returned to the track in 2014 in scintillating form, following up a near-perfect barrier trial with his two length victory in the Eskimo Prince.

Jockey Hugh Bowman, who will retain the ride on the Fastnet Rock colt this weekend, told the press the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) is definitely within the means of the El Roca immediately following his first-up win two weeks ago.

“He was first-up today, but he feels like a miler, no questions about it. He’ll go to the Hobartville in two weeks, but after today, you’d be confident going towards the (Randwick) Guineas” Bowman said.

Having also opened his 2014 campaign in the Eskimo Prince Stakes, Romantic Touch is in-line for a second-up tilt at the 2014 Hobartville Stakes on Saturday.

Romantic Touch was a standout performer of the late autumn/early winter in 2013, following up victories in the TAB.com.au Plate (1400m) and Australian Turf Club Handicap (1550m) with a memorable win over Zoustar and Paximadia in the Group 1 J.J Atkins (1600m).

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on all Rosehill races this weekend, including the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes.
