Terravista Scores First-Up Victory In 2014 Southern Cross Stakes

The 2014 Southern Cross Stakes has been won by Terravista at Royal Randwick Racecourse today.

Terravista won the race in dominant fashion ahead of Albrecht, who fought on for second, and My Destiny, who rounded out the places in third.

The Captain Riogelding win three of his four race starts during the spring and his return to racing was highly anticipated.

The gelding’s most recent result prior to today’s Southern Cross Stakes perfromance was a second placing in the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse behind White Sage.

Terravista was favourite to take out the 2014 Southern Cross Stakes after his impressive trial win earlier this month and was paying odds of $2.70 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Trainer Joe Pride trains Terravista and was at the track to see the four-year-old salute in his first-up start in Sydney.

Terravista was ridden by jockey Jason Collett in the 2014 Southern Cross Stakes, who rode the gelding in his first two starts.

The duo won their first race together on debut in the $35,000 Australian Turf Club Pate, before placing fifth in a Warwick Farm Handicap second-up.

Terravista has now won five of his seven race starts and has earned more than $250,000 during his horse racing career.
