2014 Peter Young Stakes Betting Preview and Tips

Despite sharing the same Caulfield race card with three Group 1 events, the 2014 Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) is shaping as one of the most highly-anticipated events of the day, with 2013 Melbourne Cup Champion Fiorente confirmed to make his 2014 debut.

Having closed his 2013 spring campaign in the best possible way, Fiorente is clear favourite for the 2014 Peter Young Stakes at a current quote of $2.30, ahead of market mover Pakal ($5.50), Star Rolling ($6) and 2013 Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes champion Foreteller ($6).

Will Fiorente pick up where he left off in 2013, or will one of his eight talented opponents secure a memorable victory?

1st

Fiorente ($2.30)

Having built to the task of Melbourne Cup glory with several consistent results amongst talented fields last spring, Fiorente became the first favourite in nearly a decade to claim the race that stops a nation and delivering renowned trainer Gai Waterhouse her maiden success in the $6 million event. Having trialled well at Randwick on January 31st, Waterhouse is confident her stable’s star will perform from the outset ahead of another successful campaign.

2nd

Green Moon ($12)

Truly highlighting the talent on display in the 2014 Peter Young Stakes, 2012 Melbourne Cup champion Green Moon is offering incredible value at $12 to claim a first-up win this weekend. Having spelled well after a less-than-successful tilt at last season’s Cup, trainer Robert Hickmott said Green Moon is in great shape and believes the Montjeu entire will be tough to beat from barrier 7.

3rd

Pakal ($5.50)

Having placed third in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) first-up at Caulfield two weeks ago, Mick Price-trained Pakal’s chances for success in the Peter Young Stakes received a huge boost when drawing barrier 2 earlier this week; also contributing to a large increase in support for the Lord Of England gelding. In-form jockey Craig Williams has been confirmed to take the ride on Pakal on Saturday, who will need to find good position early if to overcome the talented Peter Young Stakes field.
