2014 Blue Diamond Stakes Betting Preview and Tips

The 2014 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is shaping as the most hotly-contested race of the year so far, with classy two-year-olds Rubick and Earthquake confirmed to line up for a highly anticipated showdown at Caulfiled on Saturday.

Having claimed early favouritism for the 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes after strolling home in her Blue Diamond Prelude event (1100m) two weeks ago, exciting filly Earthquake’s claims on the major Group 1 event for two-year-olds took a huge blow when drawing the exceptionally unfortunate barrier 15, opening their door for boom colt Rubick to claim the position as outright $2.90 favourite.

Will the 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes unfold as a showdown between Earthquake and Rubick, can one of their 14 classy competitors figure in an upset?

Rubick ($2.90)

Having strolled to an easy victory in the TAB Iphone App Plate (1000m) on debut in January before easing off the pace late in the Blue Diamond Prelude event for colts and geldings, exciting colt Rubick has been a frontrunner for the Blue Diamond Stakes his entire racing career. Trainer Gerald Ryan said earlier in the week he would be happy with barrier 7 or 8, but anything outside would be fine. Having drawn barrier 10 on Wednesday, the Encosta De Lago colt is in prime form and position to continue to so far perfect career start.

Earthquake ($15)

Also completing a perfect two wins from two starts in her short career so far, Earthquake amazingly ran precisely the same time as Rubick in her corresponding Blue Diamond Prelude event for fillies, however pulled a far greater gap on her closest rival (Eloping), consolidating her early favouritism. Despite the poor barrier draw, foreman Paul Snowden has complete faith in the Exceed And Excel filly, and is confident she can overcome the wide start.

Jabali ($14)

After running an unlucky second behind Risen From Doubt in the Listed Maribyrnong  Trial Stakes (1000m) on debut, Jabali continued to impress when running a close second to Rubick in the Blue Diamond Prelude two weeks ago. Having drawn the ideal barrier 3, the half-brother of Earthquake is received huge attention from punters, who currently believe the Blue Diamond Stakes will not be a two horse race; instilling the consistent two-year-old as the unrivalled market mover.
