Guelph was one of the undoubtable performers of the 2013 spring; claiming three wins from only four starts that included both the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) to stamp her claim as one of Australia’s leading milers.

Having dominated a barrier trial at Rosehill on February 4th, many are already expecting the classy Exceed And Excel filly to produce an even greater preparation this season, with runs in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) slated for March alone.

While featuring as resounding early favourite to begin her Autumn campaign in perfect fashion, Guelph will need to be on-song if she is to overcome a field that includes Sweet Idea.

Left in the spelling paddock for the 2013 Spring season, three-year-old Sweet Idea has been in top form since returning to the track in December, following up a strong win in the Wyong Three-Year-Old Stakes (1200m) with a memorable win in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast on January 11th.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse has outlined a busy Autumn for the Snitzel filly, who is also likely to feature in the 2014 Coolmore Classic in March.

Also included in nominations for the 2014 Light Fingers Stakes is David Vandyke-trained Arabian Gold.

Having claimed an impressive five wins from eleven starts since debuting in December 2012, Arabian Gold will surprisingly be chasing her maiden victory at group level after falling agonisingly close on more than one occasion, including a hard-fought second to Guelph in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes in September.

Team Hawkes-trained Real Surreal has started her racing career in near-perfect form, claiming three wins from four starts including the $2 million Jeep Magic Millions Classic (1200m) as well and two resounding barrier trials since debuting in November.

The 2014 Light Fingers Stakes will feature as one of two drawcard events at Royal Randwick this weekend, along with the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m)
