Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The 2014 Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) will jump as the featured event on a strong Rosehill Gardens card on Saturday, and will feature a total of eight runners vying for a top prize of $105,000.
Classy mare Catkins ($4.50) has been a frontrunner for the 2014 Breeders’ Classic since markets opened earlier this week; however John O’Shea-trained White Sage has been the unrivalled punters’ pick, cutting in price tremendously to currently register as the $2.70 and market mover.
Of the eight confirmed to line up for a tilt at the Breeders’ Classic on Saturday, five runners are currently quoted at a price of less-than $10, with Steps In Time ($5), classy mare Streama ($5) and Driefontein ($8.50) featuring just beyond the aforementioned favourites.
Will White Sage prove punters everywhere right? Or can Pretty Pins ($101) cause the day’s biggest boil-over?
The pride and joy of Guy Walter’s Warwick Farm stables, Streama produced one of the most consistent 2013 Spring campaigns of any Australian miler, following up a memorable victory in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) with a close second behind talented Boban in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap last time out. Having trialled well throughout late January/early February, Jockey Blake Shinn is confident of two Group 2 victories in as many weeks with Walter-trained mares after partnering Appearance to a strong win in the Expressway Stakes at Randwick last Saturday.
White Sage ($2.70)
White Sage is aiming for six wins in as many starts when lining up for the Breeders’ Classic this weekend, having capped a strong 2013 with a resounding victory in the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) in November. John O’Shea is full of praise for the Reset mare, and will aim his young star towards a tilt at the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Doncaster Mile following her first-up event this weekend.
Four-year-old Catkins produced an incredible 2013 Spring season; failing to finish any worse than third in six races which included wins in the Group 3 Sportingbet Sprint (1200m) and Group 3 Eliza Park International Stakes (1600m), as well as a hard-fought second behind Red Tracer in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) last time out. Having performed well in two barrier trials since returning from the spelling paddock, trainer Chris Waller is confident of first-up success for the Dubawi mare.
Streama offers incredible value to all punters at $5 for victory in the 2014 Group 2 Breeders’ Classic this weekend.
