2014 The Vanity Final Field and Barrier Draw

The final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) has been released, with 2013 Crown Oaks performer Solicit confirmed to make her 2014 debut at Flemington on Saturday.

Despite a less-than-convincing racing debut in March 2013, Solicit has not finished outside the places in her six proceeding events, which have included victories in the City Of Ballarat Plate (1100m) and Sportingbet Best Tote Plate (1200m).

Registering as one of the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival’s most consistent performers, the Street Cry filly was unlucky to finish third behind Kirramosa in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) when unable to find a clean sprinting line.

A tilt at the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in October has already been underlined as the long-term goal for Solicit in 2014, and will be aiming to begin the busy journey with a resounding victory first-up this weekend from gate 1.

Leading trainer Peter Moody looks to be a good chance of walking away from the 2014 The Vanity positively, saddling four of the nine runners confirmed for this Saturday’s Group 3.

Critical Angel (barrier 2), Spirit Of Heaven (barrier 6) and Miralago (barrier 5) will all join leading hope Sensibility, whose chances took perhaps the biggest hit of all front-runners when unluckily drawing barrier 8.

In a strong introduction to racing during the 2013 Spring, Sensibility followed up a good first-up victory in the Helen Beattie Plate (1227m) finishing fourth behind Forever Discreet in the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m), before nearly causing one of the biggest boil-overs of 2013; narrowly  running second behind classy filly Guelph in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).

Having slowly broken from the gates in that memorable event, Sensibility will need to perform from the outset if she is to overcome a field that also includes Scratchy Bottom (barrier 7).

In only three race starts to date Scratchy Bottom has managed two wins, however was perhaps most impressive when finishing fourth behind Gypsy Diamond in the Group 2 Don’t Hold Back Stakes (1600m) in October.

Winning three events from as many starts so far, Girl In Flight (barrier 4) has also been included in the final field for The Vanity, along with Quayside (barrier 3) and Rezoned (barrier 9).
