Classy four-year old Knoydart has continued his perfect start to his current preparation, easily winning the 2014 Listed Hareeba Stakes from Don’t Get Excited and Hazard.
Having left the barriers awkwardly, Knoydart appeared well and truly out of the mix until jockey Nash Rawiller was able to find clear passage around the turn, exploding out of the pack in one of the year’s best sprints so far to win by a comfortable three lengths.
Darley representative Paul Snowden was particularly pleased with the way Knoydart was able to overcome a poor start and register such a convincing victory over such a talented field.
“It’s good to see” Snowden told the media immediately following the triumph.
“When you’re winning like that and the way he has been winning, it points to a really good future for him because he’s winning it with ease and running away from a tidy field.
“There was probably about half a dozen (of his Hareeba Stakes opponents) that have got really good form at the moment, so he’s certainly got his head in the right spot.
“His first two runs back have been super and he’s really starting to reach a peak I feel.
“Nash summed it up really well and they just hammered all the way.”
Jockey Nash Rawiller delivered a near-perfect ride and was full of praise for the More Than Ready gelding.
“He’s really taken his career to a new level” Rawiller said.
“I know Kerrin (McEvoy) has a good opinion of this horse, and without putting the moz on him, I think he’s got a group 1 race in him.
“Who knows, one of those fast run handicaps; he could really figure in something.”
Having earmarked a Listed event at Mornington as the next target for the in-form Knoydart, a busy Autumn season now appears on the cards following the resounding victory.
