Streama in Peak Form Ahead of Breeders’ Classic

Jockey Blake Shinn believes impressive five-year-old Streama is in even better condition than that which delivered two minors and a win in her 2013 Spring campaign ahead of this weekend’s Group 2 Breeders’ Cup Classic (1200m) at Rosehill.

Following up a packed 2013 autumn and winter, Streama won the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) in impressive fashion before a narrow loss to the season’s top performer, Boban, in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) called curtains on the memorable season.

Having partnered the Stratum mare in a preparation gallop on Tuesday morning, Shinn told TVN that Streama is in peak condition ahead of a likely busy autumn schedule.

“Her action is just so free and mentally she is in a good head space” Shinn said.

“She worked exceptional, she has come back really well, I’d say better than she had ever felt.”

Initially expected to face off with fellow highly-rated mare Red Tracer, trainer Chris Waller revealed early in the week he was unlikely to leave the six-year-old daughter of Dane Shadow in the Breeders’ Cup final field, with a possible tilt at the Group 2 Millie Fox Quality Stakes (1400m) in two weeks looking more likely.

Despite being allocated the race’s top weight of 59kgs, Shinn believes Streama is still capable of beginning 2014 on the right note.

“It is never easy to lump that weight and win first-up but she is going well” Shinn said.

“If we can get a nice barrier, I think she will be very hard to beat.”

Also included in nominations for the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday, trainer Guy Walter revealed he did not consider Streama a legitimate contender over 1000m, and her major targets of the campaign remained in Sydney.

“There are just so many big races coming up for her, we don’t need to rush and go to Melbourne” Walter told TVN.

Streama will undoubtedly carry favouritism into the 2014 Breeders’ Cup, of which a final field of 12 is expected when final acceptances are released tomorrow. is currently offering all new members a bonus bet of up to $250 just for signing up!
