Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Veteran Queensland trainer Bruce Hill has revealed that he is thrilled with the condition of talented gelding Teronado ahead of the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Teronado returned to racing with a solid third behind Woodbine and Pirandello in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 1 and Hill told Racing Ahead that he has been happy with the way the son of Testa Rossa has settled in to his new environment at Flemington.
“He is terrific; he pulled up good and has been really good since,” Hill said.
“He left up there on Monday after racing there and he has been down at Flemington since.
“Everything is really good with him.”
The Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 1 is the major autumn goal for Teronado, but Hill believes that the three-year-old is close to peak fitness ahead of the CS Hayes Stakes and ready to produce a strong performance.
“He is a horse that doesn’t take a lot of work; generally it is one trial and then a race and then he is getting pretty close to the mark,” Hill said.
“When he is held-up he can really unwind and he has a good long run too; he doesn’t just wind her for fifty yards.
“He will improve a little bit, but in saying that he is pretty right at the minute.”
Damian Browne, Chris Munce, Jim Byrne and Christian Reith have all ridden Teronado throughout his racing career, but leading Melbourne jockey Craig Newitt has picked up the ride on the Magic Millions Yearling purchase in the CS Hayes Stakes and has an opportunity to hang on to the ride for the Australian Guineas.
“Craig Newitt will ride,” Hill said.
“Nobody is booked for the Guineas as of yet, but if he goes well for Craig, Craig can ride him if he wishes.”
The CS Hayes Stakes will be one of the key lead-up races to the Australian Guineas and you can find the best odds for both races at Ladbrokes.com.au.
