2014 The Vanity Nominations – Solicit Set To Return

Crown Oaks placegetter Solicit is set to return to the races on Saturday after being included in the 2014 The Vanity nominations.

Solicit is returning to the races for the first time since her gutsy third in the Crown Oaks in The Vanity at Flemington this weekend.

Solicit failed to fire on debut in the Gold Rush at Bendigo in March last year, but since joining the stable of Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra he has not missed a placing from six race starts.

The Street Cry filly started her 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with back-to-back wins in the City Of Ballarat Plate (1100m) and the Best Tote Plate (1200m) and had no luck when third behind Se Sauver in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) at Flemington.

She was narrowly beaten by Arabian Gold in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield and was third in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day before producing the best run of her career in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m).

Solicit set a quick tempo in the early stages of the race and battled home bravely in the final stages of the race to finish a close third behind Kirramosa and Zanbagh.

The Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is the long-term goal for Solicit, but she will have the opportunity to return to the winners circle in The Vanity at Flemington this weekend.

Solicit will face stiff competition in the 2014 edition of The Vanity from the lightly-raced Scratchy Bottom, who has recorded two wins from three races starts.

Scratchy Bottom made her debut with a comfortable victory over Super Fun and Downunder Prince in the World Class Locally Plate (1533m) at Moonee Valley on October 4 and finished fourth when stepped up to Group level in the Don’t Hold Back Classic (1600m) at the same venue three weeks later.

After a stint in the spelling paddock the daughter of Sebring returned to the races in the Robert Hunter Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on February 1 and recorded a tough win to earn another tilt at Group level.

Peter Moody looks set to have almost half the 2014 The Vanity final field after including Critical Angel, Miralago, Sensibility and Spirit Of Heaven in the nominations for the Group 3 event.
