Classy colt Rubick has claimed the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Colts and Geldings with ease, overcoming an awkward start to beat Jabali and Chivalry by a length.

A top pick with punters for the 2014 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes since claiming the TAB IPhone App Plate at Caulfield two weeks ago, the Encosta De Lago colt has now consolidated a highly anticipated meeting with Earthquake, who easily overcame a talented field to claim the Fillies edition of the same event, amazingly in the exact same time as Rubick.

Trainer Gerald Ryan gave the run of his star colt a pass mark, however did concede some areas of the run could have been improved.

“He did a lot of work in the race early and probably drilled a bit at the start” Ryan said.

“He’s maintained sustained speed throughout and he’ll improve off it.

“A good pass and there are plenty of ticks. He’s had two little gallops since a fortnight ago and he’s done really well.”

Despite the awkward beginning, Ryan revealed his is not at all concerned by Rubick’s early race form, adding the two-year-old has been quick to right previous wrongs in form.

“I’m not concerned, he’ll learn quick. He’s in strange surroundings – he’s been here four days. He’ll improve for it.”

The successful race marked the final piece of serious work for Rubick before the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in two weeks, and Ryan revealed an easy course will be taken with the star sprinter.

“He will just wind down over the next three or four days like he did last time, and we’ll bring him back in a fortnight.

“We might stop him after that and bring him back as a spring three-year-old.” is offering the best odds on events at Caulfield today, including the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes.
