Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies Tips and Betting Preview

The 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Fillies will jump race five on a strong Caulfield card today, with classy two-year-old Earthquake ($1.70) favourite amongst punters to continue a strong start to her racing career.

Ultimately deciding favouritism for the 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd, the Blue Diamond Prelude events offer punters keen insight into form heading into the major group 1 feature.

Of the 11 confirmed to jump today, only three runners currently feature at a quote less-than $10 including Earthquake, Eloping ($7.50) and Tom Hughes-trained Top Dolly ($8.50).

Earthquake ($1.70)

The daughter of Exceed and Excel returned to the spelling paddock in November after scoring a strong first-up victory in the Colin Pearce 100th Birthday Plate at Randwick, and has returned in prime condition according to leading trainer Peter Snowden. Despite losing the services of regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy through injury, Earthquake is sure to be given a great ride by in-form jockey Damian Browne and will jump from the ideal barrier five.

Eloping ($7.50)

Two-year-old filly Eloping has produced some spectacular form since debuting in December, following up an exciting barrier trial with two comfortable victories that included the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) most recently. The Choisir filly also fared well in the Blue Diamond Prelude barrier draw, and should receive good passage from gate three.

Mumbai Rock ($18)

Despite making her racing debut, Mumbai Rock offers punter excellent value for first-up success at $18. Saddled by Flemington-based David Hayes, the Fastnet Rock filly is said to have prepared extremely well for the Blue Diamond Prelude F and has drawn relatively well in barrier eight. If renowned jockey Glen Boss can find a decent position early, Mumbai Rock appears more than capable of causing a huge upset.
