Blue Diamond Prelude Colts & Geldings Tips and Betting Preview

The 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Colts and Geldings is just one of eight notable events at Caulfield today, and while not offering the notable field of the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes, will undoubtedly be one of the day’s more well-fought contests.

Talented colt Rubick will be looking to continue to his perfect start to a racing career, and has been the undoubted punters’ pick for the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude for Colts and Geldings.

While offering the champion a claim on $90,000, the two Blue Diamond Prelude events will ultimately decide favouritism for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 22, with Rubick currently featuring as a $2.90 favourite.

Can Rubick blow away his competition as expected? Or will Nostradamus cause the boil-over of the day? Have your say at Ladbrokes.com.au!

1st

Rubick ($1.60)

Having claimed favouritism for the major Group 1 feature on February 22nd after comfortably winning the TAB IPhone APP Plate (1000m) on debut in January, Rubick has been the incomparable favourite for the Blue Diamond Prelude C&G with punters, who have heavily backed the Encosta De Lago colt from an opening price of $2.10 to his current quote of $1.65. So sure are punters of another victory to the talented two-year-old, that no other runner currently features at a price less than $10. Expected to be one of the season’s top performing sprinters, Rubick looks set to continue his so-far perfect run of form.

2nd

Nostradamus ($14)

Nostradamus won the Nursery Plate (1100m) at Flemington in his only start to date, immediately figuring as a leading chance for the Blue Diamond Stakes. Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes has been particularly happy with the form and preparation of the Medaglia D’Oro colt, but revealed he wants to see the two-year-old justify his impressive performance on debut with another strong run today.

3rd

Malaguerra ($19)

Also carrying winning form into the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G is Wez Hunter-trained Malaguerra. Comfortably winning the John Duff and Co. 2.y.o Plate (1000m) in January, the Magnus colt was the early market mover for the 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude but has drifted slightly following the huge money for Rubick.
