Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Well-trialled mare Arinosa is clear favourite for the 2014 Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes, as punters expect the talented sprinter to immediately find the form that produced a some great results throughout 2013.
Despite running last in a field of 12 in the 2013 Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), the daughter of Dash For Cash book-ended the forgettable result with a memorable victory in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) first-up before finishing second to Plucky Belle in the Group 3 Lavazza Short Black (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day.
Arinosa has been allotted the top weight of 59kgs from the 2014 Bellmaine Stakes, however was the real winner at this week’s barrier draw; claiming gate four and exciting punters further when regular jockey Brenton Avdulla was confirmed to take the ride.
Arinosa remains resounding favourite, however the best backed runner in Bellmaine Stakes betting markets has been four-year-old mare A Time For Julia ($8).
Despite missing the entire 2013 Autumn carnival as a result of a stint in the spelling paddock, punters have clearly been impressed with the form shown by the daughter of Redoute’s Choice throughout the spring which included a competitive second in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m).
Partnered by regular jockey Luke Nolan, A Time For Julia’s claims received a huge boost when drawing the ideal barrier seven, but will have to take up a competitive position early if she is to overcome the talented field that includes Power Princess ($4.50).
Despite trialling well, Power Princess was unable to reach her full potential over the 2013 Spring, finishing sixth behind Buffering in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes and ending the campaign late; placing third in the Group 3 A.J Scahill Stakes (1400m) on December 7th.
Previously trained in Western Australia, Power Princess’s most notable result to date was a strong third behind modern-day legend Black Caviar in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in 2012.
A busy season appears to be on the cards for the well-trialled mare, and punters expect the daughter of Marwina to overcome a poor barrier draw and take the lead early.
Hi Belle ($8) is the only remaining entrant currently offering odds of less than $10 for 2014 Bellmaine Stakes success.
The Clangalang mare will be aiming to build on a strong end to her 2013 Spring campaign; a close second in the Group 3 Summond Stakes (1600m) in November.
A field of 15 is expected for the 2014 Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes, with Team Alderson-trained mare Counted (previously $16) an early scratching.
